What do we not do to keep ourselves (especially our guts) healthy? From exercise to regular check-ups to healthy diets, we’ll do anything to keep our gut healthy, but; we seem to forget the easiest and the cheapest means to preserve our health. You must be wondering what I mean eh? Well, heard about natural medicines, herbs? Yep! Herbs actually work! And tea is one such herb or medicinal plant that keeps you healthy. Being extremely healthy even post-fermentation, tea can be used as a drink to keep your gut healthy. This fermented tea is known as Kombucha. This type of tea has a long history to the days of Ancient China where Kombucha was consumed on a regular basis to treat inflammatory diseases and keeping the gut healthy. In today’s world, with an increasing number of people becoming health conscious (especially the gut health and increasing use of pre- and pro-biotics), Kombucha has found a place in the diet of Modern Man, which helps in the treatment of acne, fatigue, hypertension and some other diseases. The present discourse is to tell you how to make Kombucha.

Making Kombucha basically is easy process and you can make it at home without any problem. Here are the things you need to make Kombucha:

1. One Kombucha Starter/Scoby
2. Two Organic Black Tea bags
3. One-fourth of excellent quality sugar.
4. Kombucha Jar
5. One liter of water.

Steps to Make Kombucha
  • To begin with, in a pot; boil some water and add loose tea leaf or the two aforementioned tea bags.
  • Now, turn off the heat to allow the tea leaves to be strained for about five minutes prior to removing the leaves or the tea bags.
  • After this, add sugar and stir in order to allow the sugar to dissolve. Next, allow the sugar tea to cool and then pour it into the Kombucha Jar.
  • Further, add on the Kombucha Scoby or the starter along with the starter liquid into the jar and mix well and then cover up the jar with a breathable lid and put a jar in a cupboard or a similar place and permit the preparation to ferment over seven to ten days in a temperature ranging between twenty to twenty-four degrees Celsius.
  • Having done this, you’ll find that a new Scoby has formed and if you are content with the taste of the Kombucha, pour it into a glass container and preserve it in the refrigerator. (Note: In order that you may make a new batch of Kombucha, reserve hundred milliliters of the fermented Kombucha and its Scoby.)
Steps To Make Carbonated Kombucha
  • Add one part of fruit juice to 9 parts of Kombucha in a jar. Then mix them.
  • Having done this, pour the mixture into a glass-made bottle and place the lid tightly
  • Now, take the bottle and place it in a cupboard at room temperature.
  • The mixture is now allowed to ferment for a day or two.
  • Finally, transfer the bottle into the refrigerator in order that it may chill and serve.
